Having a {BALL} Party

Our “baby” turned two today, TWO! He loves balls, always loves to throw them, kick them, and jump in the ball pit. So, it was obvious that we had to have a ball themed party. I was looking forward to all of the bright colors and fun shaped food. I made a polka dot, rainbow layered cake and mini trix treats that I rolled into balls. We ordered an insane amount of kolache from St. Louis Kolache, because they’re delicious and shaped like balls to go along with the theme. I also ordered another one of my favorite ball-shaped foods, glitter bites from Sarah’s Cake Shop.  Sadly, our ball pit did not survive the party, but I guess that means that the kids had a ball of a time!

{SUPER}Chan’s 5th Birthday

SuperChan’s fifth birthday party was a {SUPER} good time! Chan & his cousin, Car, are one day apart. This year, they both wanted a superhero party . . . so we decided having their parties together would be a lot of fun. All the little superheroes that attended had a blast playing the superhero games and running around in their capes that my Aunt and I made for them.

Chan-to-Mars-Blog---Superhero-Party---Super-CakeChan to Mars Blog - Superhero Party - Cake TableI made the boy’s cakes, then my Aunt & I added the fondant buildings. Super easy with a large impact! I made the buildings and cake toppers using a laser cutting machine. The black and white polka dot background is wrapping paper. My aunt made the superhero suckers and the dipped marshmallows. Of course, we couldn’t have a superhero party without having a Capt. America fruit tray 😉 Chan-to-Mars-Blog---Captian-America-Fruit-Tray---Superhero-PartyChan to Mars - Superhero Party - DetailsMy Aunt & I made each little superhero a personalized cape! We picked up the Ironman glider balloon at a local party store. It was a big hit with the kids & a nice greeting for the party guests. Chan-to-Mars---Superheo-Party---Pop-ArtChan to Mars Blog - Superhero Party - Black & White - Pop Art CakeChan to Mars Blog - Superhero Party GamesWe had four games; Hulk Smash, Pin the star on Capt. Hulk Smash was definitely the biggest “hit” of the party. Chan-to-Mars-_-Superhero-Party-_-FamilyWith love from my {SUPER} family to yours!

Five in {FIVE} Days!

Everyone says it, every day, but, seriously . . . where has the time gone? My baby will be FIVE in five short days. He’s absolutely ecstatic about it! He cannot wait to grow up, me on the other hand, I can wait.  I mean c’mon, look at those long baby eyelashes and that adorable freckled face. In another five short years it’s all going to be different.DSC_5274Chan-to-Mars---5-Years-Old-Every year he seems to grow leaps and bounds above the last, and this year is no different. He’s learning everyday, not just from school though, he’s very observant and constantly learning from others. I love to teach him because he’s always willing to soak up the knowledge. He just started his last year of preschool and he was so excited. He’s made several friends in our subdivision this year and he loves when we go on bike rides over to their houses to play. He loves to play with his brother, but hates to share. He’ll share with friends, just not his brother! He loves going out to the “farm” and going camping. He loves to eat junk food, so we have to be sneaky about the healthy foods. He loves biscuits & gravy, cheese toasted ravioli, and pizza. He likes sneakers and comfy pants. He likes collecting toys. He likes to play with cars, trucks, remote control cars, and superhero costumes. He loves to drive or ride anything motorized. He’s a surprisingly good driver! He’s still super funny, strong willed, with a phenomenal vocabulary, and an adorable smile.

An {ENCHANTING} Thirtieth Birthday Party

Remember my friend, the one that always throws parties with me? Like this one, this one, and this one. We always help each other design and style our children’s birthday parties, with the addition of a few adult parties here and there, but this is the first time we’ve had our birthday party together. Her birthday is June 17th and mine is on the 28th . . . We normally keep our birthdays low key, but this year I’m turning 30 . . . Low key was not an option!

See, my friend & I were/are deep into the show “Once Upon a Time”, since January of this year we joked that the party should be fairytale themed. During our party planning meeting in April we came up with the idea to have a more formal party, a cocktail party. Then, we went for it . . . it would be an enchanted forest cocktail party. Originally, we wanted to encourage people to dress up as their interpretation of their favorite storybook character, but when we were choosing our outfits we realized that would be way too difficult for everyone. We chose whatever dress looked best on us, regardless of the color, fabric or style, ha!  So, we kind of ended up dressed as Snow White & the Evil Queen 😉

Step one, find the perfect venue. Thanks to all of my friend’s research, we found it . . .

Soulard Station Enchanted Forest Party

Soulard Station is this quaint modern rustic venue that holds about 40-50 people indoors and 100 when using their outdoor space. The best part about the venue was that we could bring in our own caterer and drinks. Step two, get a caterer, bartender and servers. Total Cartering in St. Louis always does an awesome job . . . The owner always works with us on all of our requests and it is always delicious! Enchanted Forest Party Focal Table Enchanted Forest Party Food Table Detail

Step three, decorate the crap out of this place! The table decor was all stuff that Gwen & I collected around our houses and pulled from other parties that we’ve had in the past. I painted the gold branch and made the floral lantern with flowers from Dollar Tree then we hung these glass balls filled with moss from the branch. Enchanted Forest Party DecorEnchanted Forest Birthday Party - Snow White & Evil QueenBe Our Guest to an enchanted forest partyWe had such a great time! We ate, drank & danced the night away. Thank you to everyone that helped, especially our husbands that go along with all of our crazy ideas and bossiness, ha! And thank you to all the people that came to party.

Marshall is turning {ONE} tomorrow . . . unbelievable! He’ll no longer be zero, as Chan likes to say. He’ll be {ONE}.

This past Sunday, we threw a little breakfast & pajama bash to celebrate! The party took place at our home, at 9:30 AM. We served an assortment of breakfast food, encouraged people to come dressed in their pajamas, and we stayed in our pajamas all day long. It was perfect!! Best idea I’ve had yet . . .Untitled-2DSC_0313 DSC_0316 DSC_0334 DSC_0335 DSC_0337 DSC_0345 DSC_0371 DSC_0383 DSC_0393 DSC_0408

We asked everyone that took photos to post them on Instagram with the hashtag #marshallstoneisone. It’s so fun to see what everyone else captured from the day.

Chan is {FOUR}

Chan-on-StumpChan to Mars Blog - Chan by Crystal Lindsey Photography _CLZ0277 Chan-Close-UpsChan-Sitting-&-FightingOh.my.gawd. What can I say about this beautiful boy?!? The saying, “The days are long, but the years are short” is spot on. Four years ago this {WONDERFUL} little (ahem, 10lb 2oz) baby boy made me a momma & my husband a daddy . . . we went in blindly, and we’re still figuring things out, but man, are we having {FUN}.

Chandler is amazing, simply put! Every mother thinks that of their child and I am no different 😉 Now that he is four, I feel strange writing a blog post about his developments like I have every other year . . . I mean, he is {LEARNING} every day . . . but, I think that we are kind of past the baby milestone phase 😦 let me weep for a moment . . . Okay, I’m better now. So, let me just tell you about this charismatic little man.

Chandler is . . .

hilarious. The way that he uses phrases, the expressions that he makes, his comedic timing . . . he’s funny. However, what’s not funny is when he wants to do something over and over and over again because he thinks it will be just as funny the 376,823 time. Let me assure you, it’s not. Mad props for trying though 😉

sneaky. You’ve got to keep your eye on him. Today, him & his dad were sharing some of their favorite indulgence, chips, when my husband got up to get a drink, Chandler hid the chips and told his dad that he had eaten them all . . . just so he didn’t have to share them anymore. Really?!?

totally into vehicles. Since before I can remember Chandler has always loved vehicles, more specifically trucks. He collects trucks, watches trucks on TV, reads books about trucks, etc. Recently, he came home speaking of super heroes and I was totally shocked that something may be replacing the truck obsession . . . but, it wasn’t . . . he was only interested in them because he classmates spoke about them; therefore, he wanted to know about them and learn enough to talk to his friends, but he didn’t really want to play with them.

tenacious. Or you could say, stubborn as hell, tenacious just sounds better 😉 He is determined to do what he wants, when he wants and how he wants to do it. Which should serve him well later in life, but right now, it’s a little challenging.

smart. He knows a little bit about {A LOT} of things and he is always curious to learn more. Yesterday we talked about bones and organs and he prided himself on trying to remember the details that we discussed. He said, “Wow, we talked about a lot of things!”

We love you baby boy!

Chandler’s {CAMPING} Party

Chandler’s camping theme party turned out stellar & wonderfully styled! But, you’re just going to have to take my word for it . . . because these are the only photos that I took 😦 One of these days, I am going to have to hire a photographer to come take photos of my parties, because by the time I get them set-up, the guests arrive, I quickly go out of party planner mode & into host mode, then I try to go into photographer mode for at least 10 minutes, but host mode always takes over by getting drinks, taking bags, serving food, etc. So, these pathetic photos are better than none.

4th birthday camping party naked cake

Chandler was having so much fun running around with his cousins & friends, that the only time he sat still for a photograph was when he was waiting for his cake and when he was blowing out his candles. However, since I was in host mode, I was getting the cake ready during one of the photo ops . . . so, the only photos that I got of Chan were of him blowing out his candles.

The important thing though is that everyone had a wonderful time, even though . . . once again . . . it was nearly 100 degrees out!

Revisit Chandler’s 3rd birthday party here!

A 1/2 of a {YEAR}

A 1/2 a year! Unbelievable . . . I cannot believe that Mars is already 6 months old & at the same time I cannot believe that he’s only been in our lives for 1/2 a year! It’s hard to remember what our family was like when it was only 3 people . . . it seems so different, good different . . . more complete. Chan has a built in best friend that he {LOVES} to love on, pick on & play with. I have a little momma’s boy, just when Chandler is turning into a boy that, in his words, “does not like mommy kisses or hugs!” anymore. And, Daddy has his second boy to teach how to be a man.

Everyday gets more {FUN} around here, a little more crazy at the same time, but we’re {ALL} having fun!

3rd Birthday {FALL} Fête

So, I have this friend and when our babies (my oldest & her youngest) were turning {ONE} we discovered that we both shared a {LOVE} of party styling . . . not necessarily the planning part, but we love to {STYLE}. We helped each other to plan & style our little one’s 1st birthday parties and since then, we have planned and styled ever single party together; which includes 8-10 kid birthday parties and 3-4 adult parties. Our babies (now 3) are only a couple of weeks apart, so we our busy in August & September! We had originally planned to have an Apple Picking & Picnic party for her daughter, but our local venues just didn’t work out for us . . . so, my friend decided to push her daughter’s party back a couple of weeks and have a Fall Fête at the pumpkin patch! Um, yes!! I {LOVE} fall, I {LOVE} pumpkin patches . . . let’s do this!
